Programme Overview
Housekeeping covers all the essential areas of room maintenance and cleaning in a hotel so that guests can always feel comfortable. Housekeeping is critical to the success of today’s lodging operations and this course will illustrate what it takes to accomplish day-to-day operations of this department, from big-picture management issues to technical details for cleaning each area. You will learn basic housekeeping management skills, such as the proper cleaning of furniture, how to use cleaning products, and how to avoid the spread of infectious diseases. Additionally, you will learn how to properly maintain the cleanliness of private residences and other hospitality settings.

- Introduction to Service Sector: Housekeeping Operations
- Attributes of Housekeeping Service Staff: Role and importance
- Hierarchy in Housekeeping Department: Structure, Reporting and Handling Disputes
- Cleaning Equipment and Cleaning Agents: Equipment and Materials
- Ceramics, Glass, Plastic, Linen, and Uniform: Identifying types of surfaces
- Bed and Bedding: Understanding the various items and their functions in a bedding such as pillow, pillow cases, pillow covers, Duvet, Duvet Covers, Mattress, Mattress Protector; Learning the Maitre Fold; Making the bed
- Cleaning Sanitary Fittings: Procedures for entering toilets and washrooms; use correct cleaning agents to avoid damage to fittings
- Interior Decoration: Flower arrangements knowledge about commonly used flowers and other decorative items
- Carpet Cleaning Knowledge about the correct equipment, chemicals and procedure for cleaning and shampooing carpets
- Pest Control: Ensuring that the workplace well protected from pest and rodent infestation
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Co-ordination between Front Office, Maintenance and Security departments
- Safety at Work: Identify any hazards or potential hazards and deal with these correctly; report any accidents or near accidents quickly and accurately to the concerned authority; and follow safety procedures at the workplace

LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Carry out standardized cleaning and sanitizing procedures for floors, toilets, rooms, and other areas, including dusting, brooming, moping, and deep cleaning;
- Show increased awareness of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and use of chemicals;
- Evince clarity about the standards of hygiene required in all cleaning operations carried out in the kitchen, cafeteria, production, and other areas;
- Explain the reasons for housekeeping practices and the consequences of non-compliance; and
- Demonstrate how they could apply these standards to any aspect of their work procedures.
